Our art classes are a lot of fun. We provide a space for people in our community to come and relax, visit with friends, and create.
But we also teach people lessons, sometimes it is obvious, like when we hold an artist workshop with a visiting artist. People want to come and learn all about that person's work and techniques.
Other times it's subtle, like when we teach art camp. Some of our kids are here because they LOVE art. And others are here because their parents work a full time job and they don't want the kids sitting home all day by themselves.
But during Art Camp the kids find out a new perspective on life, and new ways to problem solve. Because that is what art teaches us. It teaches us how to see the world, how to be observant, and how to fix a problem that has happened by looking at the situation and then figuring out a new way to execute the plan.
And our first clay class in our reinvented AIE is no different. It takes place as we begin our Created to Create show, and Easter month.
We are creating a ceramic cross. Each person gets to come in and create one of their own, all supplies are included, and it will be a lot of fun.
But what is wonderful about creating a ceramic cross, is the symbolism. God created Adam from clay, he sculpted him. and breathed life into him. We are not that amazing our crosses will be beautiful but they won't compare to the glory of God's creation. (lol)
And we all know Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins, that is not a new thought to most Christians, but what is symbolic is the fact our crosses are made out of clay, like the first human, and the first sinners.
We are God's creation, formed from the clay of God's creation, that God's son came to save by dying on the cross. Super symbolic! And we will add clay flowers to the crosses to symbolize new life. The new life we will have in Heaven, and the new life we have when we are baptized.
After you hang your cross on your wall, either each Easter season, or for the whole year, your visitors may see a cute piece of home decor, but you will see God's love when you look at it.
